You can read some answers to our frequently asked questions in this section.

  • Yes all our courses and workshops are suitable for beginners apart from the ‘Level 2 Throwing Courses’ which are recommended to those with at least a basic level of experience at the wheel. 

    We pride ourselves on our focus on working with individuals at their level - so we will assess your own learning and making goals and work with you to help you reach these.

  • We ask that you make sure that you can attend the sessions in a block before booking. We run a busy studio its therefore not possible to accommodate any replacement of missed sessions.

    Sorry, we are not able to refund sessions which are missed and you will not be able to attend an alternative session to make up for the time.

  • Just yourself. You don’t need to bring anything else - we provide clay, glazes, tools, equipment, aprons - everything you’ll need. However if you already have your own practise and you have favourite tools you like to use - feel free to bring them along.

  • Yes, we do! Gift Vouchers are available in our Shop.

  • Yes! Tea, coffee & biscuits will always be offered.

  • We provide all the tools, equipment, accessories (ie. aprons, masks etc).  

    We do ask for a small amount to cover materials, which is costed at £2 per 1lb of finished piece of work (more details on our Terms & Conditions page.

  • Yes, of course, you may take home any work you make once finished. We will email you once work is ready for collection and specify collection times.

    We work diligently to ensure your work is well cared for and fired promptly. However, please be aware that during the firing process, pieces may become damaged, crack, or explode.  Clay Works is not responsible for any damage that occurs during firing. 

    We recommend allowing at least 10 days for a single firing (bisc or glaze) and 3 weeks for two firings. Technical issues, such as a broken element, may extend these timelines. 

    Please only use materials that can withstand our communal firing temperatures (1000°C for bisque and 1260°C for stoneware). All materials we provide are suitable for these temperatures. If damage occurs due to the use of incorrect materials, the responsible party will be liable for the costs incurred.

  • Please make certain that you can attend the course before you sign up. If something comes up then please get in touch as soon as possible.

    If you paid in full you will be refunded (except any deposit) as long as the cancellation is made no later than 14 days before the course or workshop start date.

    Sorry, no refunds will be given for cancellations made less than 14 days before the course or workshop start date.

  • Vouchers are valid for one year from the date of purchase.  They can be used to pay in full or be part payment of a workshop or course at clay works - including a private group workshop.  Just get in touch by email to arrange your booking. 

    In line with gov.uk legislation - we are not required to provide a refund for gift vouchers unless the customer has requested this within 14 days of the purchase.
