A two day course which takes an in depth look at making jugs - with a focus on throwing cylinders, shaping the lip and pulling/attaching handles.

8th & 9th Feb 2025

11th & 12th Oct 2025

10am - 4pm each day

***The studio will stay open until 6pm on both days - giving you time for extra practise, if you feel like it.

Course Content:

First Day

• clay preparation

• throwing cylinders (centring, pulling up…)

• shaping - bellying out and collering in

• creating the lip

Second Day

• refining the shape

• turning the base (if required)

• pulling handles - attaching, pulling, shaping finishing.

• simple slip decoration.

You will be introduced to methods & techniques using demonstrations, explanations and reference to examples. Support and guidance will be offered through the duration of the course.

12:30pm resuming at 1:30 pm.

To get the most out of the courses we would recommend that you have some basic throwing experience - ie, you can centre the clay and make small cylinders.

The cost includes all materials and equipment including 2 fired & glazed pieces. Any pieces which you would like to keep over and above what’s included will be charged at £5 - £10 per piece (size dependant)

If the work needs to be posted this will be an additional cost of around £25 - £35 for P&P depending on the size and weight of the box. Also we pay extra for a ‘Fragile’ service to do the best we can to ensure no breakages.
