The Teaching Day

**The teaching will finish at 4pm, however the studio will stay open until 5pm so you can stay back to practice and make as much as you like. This Open Access facility is included as part of the cost.

You will be warmly welcomed into the studio where you will be encouraged to feel relaxed and at home. We are proud of our friendly, inclusive and open teaching style - understanding that each learner comes with their own learning style and individual goals, which we do our best to meet.

With a focus on production throwing, consistency of form repetition and scaling up.

You will learn: -

skills to enable efficiency and speed, techniques to achieve balance of form and shape, good practise with clay preparation, weights and measurements & use of tools.

Day 1 -

• Introductions

• thorough preperation of the clay - wedging, kneading and balling up.  These are vital skills for making good pots on the wheel.

• Bowls - perfecting the curve, option to scale up.

Day 2 - 

• Cylinders - shifting the weight from the base and getting the most out of the clay.

• Controlling the shape to create desired result.

Day 3 -

• More throwing practise - focusing on individual progression and specific individual goals.

• Centering and securing leather hard pieces on the wheel - ready for turning.  Trimming the pots. 

Day 4 - 

• techniques for turning and refining work made

• foot rings, curves, different finishes using tools

• making and attaching handles

Chris will introduce methods & techniques using demonstrations and explanations. Support and guidance will be offered through the duration of the course.

**LUNCH:

12:30pm resuming at 1:30 pm.

We can provide a delicious lunch of fresh crusty bread, cheeses, cold meats & salad.

WE CANNOT CATER FOR ALLERGIES

The cost includes all materials and equipment including 4 glazed & fired pieces. Any pieces which you would like to keep over and above what’s included will be charged at £5 - £15 per piece (depending on size).

If the work needs to be posted this will be an additional cost of around £25 - £35 for P&P depending on the size and weight of the box. Also we pay extra for a ‘Fragile’ service to do the best we can to ensure no breakages.
